Veljko Kockar, an all-but-forgotten cartoonist from pre-WW2 Yugoslavia, was the creator of the Kaktus Kid, a Disney-inspired hybrid of man and cactus. After liberation of German-occupied Yugoslavia, the newly established Communist government denounced Kockar as an enemy of the state and, without a trial, shot him as an allegedly Gestapo agent. Proof of Kockar's collaboration with the Germans has never been revealed. In this documentary/animated film, we follow Aleksandar Zograf, a world-renowned alternative comics creator, in his investigation into the mystery surrounding the life - and death - of his colleague from the past, executed at the age of 24. In his quest, Zograf is aided by a "brought back to life" Kaktus Kid. Working as a team, they discover many hitherto unknown facts, including the theft of Kockar's identity by another cartoonist in the post-War period. With the help of a variety of testimony and historical evidence, they resurrect the personality of Veljko Kockar, artist and victim of his time.
